Children's Dentist in Hoppers Crossing
Your child’s early dental experiences matter: not just for their teeth, but for how they’ll feel about visiting a dentist for years to come. At Hoppers Crossing Dentist, we take a gentle, unhurried approach with our youngest patients.
Why Families Enjoy Coming to Our Children's Dentist
At our visits, we explain things in ways they can understand, let them ask questions, and never force them into the chair before they’re ready. Our goal is more than just healthy teeth: it’s doing our bit in helping you raise a child who doesn’t grow up dreading dental visits.
If your child needs a bit of time and patience when it comes to a dental visit, we’d like to show you how gentle an experience can be. Our child-friendly dentists in Hoppers Crossing would love to meet your little one.
We’re a CDBS Dentist Near You, So We Bulk Bill Eligible Children
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) is a government program that provides up to $1,158 in dental benefits over two consecutive calendar years for eligible children aged 0–17. If you’ve been searching for “CDBS dentist near me”, that’s us. We bulk bill for eligible patients, which means no to partial out-of-pocket costs for covered treatments.
What CDBS Covers
CDBS covers most standard dental treatments for children, including examinations, X-rays, cleaning, fissure sealing, fillings, root canals, and extractions.
It doesn’t cover orthodontics (braces), cosmetic procedures, or treatments done in the hospital.
Is your child eligible?
Your child may be eligible for the CDBS if they’re aged 0–17 for at least one day of the calendar year that you’re visiting, and you receive Family Tax Benefit Part A or certain government payments.
Not sure if your child qualifies? We can check your eligibility at your appointment, or you can call Medicare directly on 132 011.
A gentle kids' dentist makes All The difference
Our practice is led by co-owners Dr Dinh and Dr Danish Syed, and the whole team has experience working with children of all ages, from toddlers having their first dental visit to teenagers who’d rather be anywhere else.
We know that what works for adults doesn’t always work for kids, so we adjust our pace, our language, and our approach to suit whoever’s in the chair.
Our kids' dental care treatments
We offer a full range of kids dental care in Hoppers Crossing, from their very first visit through to adolescence. Here’s what we can help with:
We recommend bringing your child in around their first birthday, or when their first teeth start to come through. These early visits are low-pressure, and it’s mostly about getting them used to the clinical environment. In this visit, we’ll check everything's developing normally, and give you some guidance on cleaning and diet.
Regular child dental check-ups in Hoppers Crossing help us catch small problems before they turn into bigger ones, and they keep your child familiar with the process so it never feels like a big deal. We'll clean their teeth, check for decay, and keep you in the loop on anything worth watching.
The chewing surfaces of back teeth have grooves that are hard for little brushes to reach. Fissure sealants are a protective coating we apply to these teeth to help prevent decay. It can be one of the most effective preventive treatments available for children.
A concentrated fluoride application can strengthen your child's tooth enamel and help protect against cavities. We'll talk you through whether it's right for your child based on their individual risk factors.
If your child does get a cavity, we use tooth-coloured composite fillings that blend in naturally. Yes, even baby teeth are worth filling, as decay can spread, cause pain, and affect the adult teeth developing underneath.
If your child plays sport, a custom-fitted mouthguard may offer better protection than anything you'll find at the chemist. This is because we make them to fit your child's mouth exactly, which means they're likely more comfortable and easier to breathe in (and far more likely to actually be worn).
From knocked-out teeth to chips and falls: kids are good at finding trouble. If something happens, call us straight away. The faster we see them, the better the outcome, especially with knocked-out adult teeth where time and action matters.
What if the dentist didn't have to be scary?
Some kids are naturally anxious about the dentist. Others have had a bad experience that’s made them wary. Either way, we completely understand, and that’s why we’ll never push or place pressure on your child at any point.
Our approach is to go at your child’s pace, build trust gradually, and make each visit a little easier than the last. For children who need extra support, we can discuss sedation options to help them through treatment comfortably.
For when it can't wait
Kids don’t tend to time their dental emergencies conveniently. That’s why we’re open seven days a week, including Sundays and late nights on Wednesdays. So, if your child needs an emergency kids’ dentist in Hoppers Crossing, you won’t be stuck waiting until Monday or trying to find someone who can fit them in.
FAQs about children’s dentistry
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule is a Medicare program that provides eligible children aged 0 to 17 with a capped benefit for basic dental services over a two-calendar-year period.
To qualify for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), a child must be aged 0–17 years, eligible for Medicare, and the child or their parent/carer must receive an eligible Australian Government payment at least once in the calendar year. Such eligible Government payments include but are not limited to Family Tax Benefit Part A, Parenting Payment, Youth Allowance, Disability Support Pension, Carer Payment, Special Benefit, or certain Veterans’ Affairs payments.
Eligibility is assessed automatically, no application is required.
The Australian Dental Association recommends that children have their first dental visit when their first tooth appears, or by their first birthday (whichever comes first). Early visits allow the dentist to monitor tooth development, identify any concerns, and provide guidance on caring for your child's teeth at home.
The first visit is generally a gentle introduction to the dental environment. Our dentist will take a look at your child's teeth, gums, and jaw development, and may discuss feeding habits, thumb sucking, and home care routines with you. For very young children, the first appointment is typically brief and focused on building familiarity rather than carrying out any extensive treatment unless there is a need for it.
For most children, a check-up every six months is recommended. Our dentist may suggest a different schedule depending on your child's individual oral health needs, including their history of decay or any developmental concerns being monitored.
Early tooth decay is not always obvious, but signs to look out for include white or brown spots on the teeth, visible holes or pitting, tooth sensitivity, and complaints of pain when eating or drinking. Because decay can develop between teeth where it is difficult to see, regular dental check-ups are important for early detection.
Contact our practice as soon as possible! We accommodate dental emergencies during business hours, and time is a factor in these situations. If your child knocks out a baby tooth, don’t try to reinsert it, but keep the tooth for our dentist to assess. If a permanent tooth is knocked out, handle it by the crown (not the root), rinse it gently with milk or saline if dirty, and bring it to the appointment in a warm milk cup.
